Cleveland Jewish News
The October 29, 2010 issue of the Cleveland Jewish News published a Business Spotlight of Fast Needle Milton's. Here is what they wrote:

NATURE OF THE BUSINESS:
We do alteration, tailoring, embroidery, dry cleaning, gift making and more.

WHAT IN YOUR BUSINESS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
Customers ask me advice about taking care of their clothes or other items. I'm proud when they follow my advice and come back happy with the results.

WHAT IS THE NEWEST TREND IN YOUR BUSINESS?
We don't just work on new clothes, but used clothes as well. The challenge is to 'update' these items to make them look fresh and stylish. Recent economic troubles have made people more frugal with the money they spend on clothing. So, we have to help our customers find less expensive ways to creatively update their wardrobe.

SNAPSHOT OF A TYPICAL DAY:
We have three rush hours : morning, lunch and after work. In between, I work on pending orders and answer the phone.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THIS BUSINESS?
I've sewn all my life, so it was logical for me to continue to do what I love on a professional basis.

Interview with a stylist
In the August issue of Image Insider, Kristen Kaleal, a bright young fashion consultant in Cleveland, published an interview with Tanya, the owner of Fast Needle - Milton's. The interfiew covered often-asked questions about alterations and styles. We hope that you will find some useful tips reading the printed below interview.

The idea of having clothing tailored is something that is expected of men, but many women pass up clothing in the store because of simple alterations that could be inexpensively handled by a good tailor.

When working with clients or speaking to groups, I always stress the importance of having our clothes altered. When we buy clothing, it is only about 75% of the way there to fitting us properly. Some more, some less.

I met Tanya Grinberg from Fast Needle-Miltons though the college transition makeover we did with the Plain Dealer. I know a good tailor when I see one, and have very quickly made her my own personal tailor. On a busy day in her shop, I asked Tanya some important questions to help women unlock the mystery of having their clothing tailored.

KK: Where are you from originally and how long have you been in the United States?
Tanya Grinberg: I am from Moscow, Russia. I came to the USA 14 years ago.

KK: What is your background in tailoring or dressmaking?
TG: My grandmother made me interested in sewing when I was about 5 years old. Since I was 12 or 13, I made most of my own dresses myself. I graduated from a 3-year sewing college in Moscow. Also I taught sewing for about 15 years before coming to the States. I was also working as a seamstress when I needed to when the cost of living was rising in Russia.

KK: What is the number one mistake women make when they buy clothing?
TG: Women don't consider their body type, their only criteria is "I like it".

KK: How do you suggest finding a good tailor?
TG: To find a good tailor is a matter of luck. Women should have a network of reliable services and share them. At Fast Needle, we rely more on word of mouth than advertising, though. But good advertising never hurts!

KK: What do you recommend for a woman who has a few pounds to lose but doesn't want to buy a new wardrobe until she loses the weight? Can you alter her clothing as she loses weight?
TG: I always recommend taking a good look at the contents of the person's closet. Some items (worn to holes, tired to death) should go to waist basket right away. Good quality stuff could be altered for "in between" period, in some cases items can be taken in several times without loosing their shape. I always recommend TO WAIT BEFORE BUYING ALL NEW CLOTHES at least several months. That will ensure you would not slip back couple pounds or more.

KK: If a woman buys a new suit, what would she need to bring in to have you properly fit it for her?
TG: When coming in for a fitting, a woman needs to have the proper undergarments and shoes she will be wearing with it. If it is a suit to be worn with a blouse or shell, it is best to have it with you.

KK: What is the proper length for jacket sleeves?
TG: The old rule about sleeve length was to the wrist bone, but new styles let women do pretty much anything they wont.

KK: What is the proper length for pants?
TG: The same thing applies to pant length. Most often we see half of the heel covered (for work). For evening, your pants can almost touch the ground - ALMOST being the operative word. Everyone likes long pants, but if pants are TOO long, it looks unkempt.

Working on making it in America
Cleveland Jewish News, December 10, 1999.
They come through the door of Tanya Grinberg's small tailoring shop in a Mayfield Heights strip center with almost astonishing regularity. A woman with an armload of clothes - pleased with having lost weight and now ready to have her things taken in. A woman with a new suit needing sleeves shortened. Someone else with a teenage daughter in tow who has yet to reveal her mission.
